Summer Fields Oxford

PSHEE

At Summer Fields PSHEE enables our pupils to relate well to others, to understand themselves, to make a positive contribution in school, and to be increasingly active citizens.

CLAIRE COOLIN, HEAD OF PSHEE

At Summer Fields, we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared for the challenges and opportunities of adult life. Our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education (PSHEE) program is a cornerstone of this mission, embedded comprehensively across both the Pre-prep and Prep.

PSHEE supports our pupils' personal development by promoting a healthy, safe lifestyle and encouraging them to build confidence and take responsibility for their actions. Through this program, pupils learn to appreciate and respect differences between people, fostering positive relationships and a strong sense of community. A significant focus is placed on mental health and well-being, ensuring that our pupils are not only academically prepared but also happy and resilient.

A key objective of our PSHEE curriculum is to provide pupils with accurate and relevant knowledge about a wide range of topics, from health to e-safety to understanding their role and responsibilities as global citizens. We aim to transform this knowledge into personal insight by encouraging pupils to explore and reflect on their own and others’ values, attitudes, and beliefs. Our program helps pupils develop critical thinking skills and understand the wider implications of their decisions, guided by a framework that respects British law and values standards.

A vital component of our PSHEE curriculum is Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). This aspect helps pupils understand how to form and maintain positive, healthy relationships. It also promotes gender equality, challenges stereotypes, and advocates for social justice and inclusion.

Our PSHEE lessons are delivered by experienced educators who ensure the content is age-appropriate and thoughtfully prepared. This careful planning allows us to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable discussing sensitive topics and developing their social and emotional skills.
